Individual Sessions
|
People choose to start attending therapy for various reasons however, they all seem to have a common goal: to feel better. That can look like so many different things to different people. You may be looking to decrease feelings of anxiety and depression, process life-changing events, grieve the loss of a loved one, create better relationships or build new self-awarenesses, plus so much more. Individual therapy is multi-faceted and it’s focus is always client-centered.
Each session is approximately 50-55 minutes, conducted in the privacy of the office, via telehealth or located outside or around the horse barn. The first session is the initial intake for information-gathering and evaluation. From this, we create a comprehensive treatment plan to guide us in the subsequent counseling sessions. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions. |

TraumaThe impact trauma has on someone can be monumental. You may notice that you become triggered by a song, smell or seemingly unrelated situation. When we experience trauma, our lives change. It can feel so scary, lonely and we feel stuck, unsure of how to move forward. There is hope and together, we can slowly and gently begin unraveling your experiences and in it’s place, rebuild with something beautiful. One of the techniques I utilize to assist clients in moving through their trauma is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an evidenced-based and comprehensive approach to psychotherapy. Its focus is to assist people with accessing and processing trauma and life-altering events that continue to impact their daily functioning. Trauma memories are stored in our brains differently than a non-traumatic memory, which leads them to be activated in ways that non-traumatic memories aren’t, often leaving people feeling intensely emotional or shut down. Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E.) EMDR therapeutic approach is a trauma-informed model that considers how trauma affects a person’s ability to regulate the nervous system and to connect with others. This particular EMDR approach utilizes somatic therapies, mindfulness practices, attachment theory and neurobiological regulation models. It offers a safe and connected environment, which is critical for effective EMDR therapy. |
